Hi there! I’m Cathy Harris, your Lay Person to Annual Conference, Lay Servant and on the Leadership Council.
I know some of you don’t know much about me, but I really want to represent you, by being a good communicator between the church and the conference. I grew up at Trinity Heights UMC in Flagstaff during the time of the Lay Witness Missions 1970’s, which seemed to make a big difference the life of the church. Coach Heath from Phoenix led it (he went on to Mingus Camp as camp director). My father passed away, and my family moved from Flagstaff to Camp Verde where I attended the Methodist Church and graduated high school. I feel like I have been a part of the Verde Valley now, for over 50 years. The writings of Rev. Paul McCleary about Methodism in Arizona and at Mountain View has made me feel like I know some of you better. (History of Methodism in Arizona located in our library)
I graduated from NAU with a degree in Early Childhood/Special Education and was active in the church and at the Campus Christian Center. I always wanted to be a missionary, so I went to Tampa FL with the US-2 program and worked in a daycare center. I was trained in Washington D.C. and then in New York when the Board of Global Missions was there. I love that our church is connectional!
I feel that Methodist’s everywhere are a part of my tribe, my people. My son Matthew had the opportunity to attend Chandler School of Theology, so I am connected through him. You may have met Matthew once or twice as he has attended Mountain View with me several times. Please feel free to communicate with me at [email protected]
