What to Expect on A Sunday
Mountain View is a casual, come-as-you, kind of place. You’ll be right at home in anything from shorts,
to jeans to business casual or your best dress and hat. Just be comfortable!
We have a style of worship with something meaningful for everyone — blending traditional and modern elements throughout the service.
Because we are always striving to build meaningful, long-term relationships with the church and its people, through every means possible, Mountain View United Methodist Church Sunday Worship includes:
- Adult Sunday School at 8:30am
- Worship Service at 9:30am (“Coffee Hour” prior)
Including a Special Children’s Message (when children are present) - The first Sunday of the month we share in communion with one another. In the Methodist Church the communion table is open to everyone. You need not be a member of this church or any church to participate.
Scripture references “all people” 383 times; with 118 references for “all nations”; and 32 for “all kings.” It is clear, God’s love and concern is for ALL PEOPLE everywhere. Mountain View United Methodist Church sees this as a call to Reach Out, Reach Up, and Reach In to REACH YOU.

Who We Are
United Methodist Church
We are brothers and sisters in Christ…called “Methodists.”
Locally, we are the congregation of the Mountain View United Methodist Church —a church in Cottonwood, Arizona, that has served Cottonwood and the surrounding Arizona communities for over 100 years.
The United Methodist Church has congregations in Arizona, throughout the United States and across the world totaling approximately 12.5 million followers in 33,000 churches with the common goal of putting faith in action by making disciples of Jesus Christ for transformation for the world.

Our Beliefs
We believe:
- There is one Holy God
- Jesus Christ the Son of God, is our Lord. Jesus lived on earth and died on the cross for our sins. His body was resurrected and ascended to heaven to be with the Father. He will come again one day to judge all mankind according to how each individual has believed in Him.
- God reaches out to us in comfort, love and guidance through the Holy Spirit.
Apostles Creed
These beliefs are often cited as the Apostles Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

Sacraments of Baptism & Communion
Additionally, the United Methodist Church practices two sacraments that draw us closer to God— baptism and communion. Baptism is entry into the universal church of Christ. Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, is remembering our covenant with God through Christ.
In the United Methodist Church we believe that Holy Communion is a sacred meal where All are welcome. Whether you are a member of our church, a visitor, or someone seeking a deeper connection with God, you are invited to participate. No matter your back ground or journey we welcome you with open hearts.
Three Principles to Guide Our Worship & Ministry
Living God’s Word — through study, we learn the Word of God and applying it to our lives (Reaching Up)
Led by the Spirit —through prayer and by “listening to God,” we are able to show his will through our actions (Reaching In)
Loving All in Christ’s Name—we serve in His name; we show love, compassion and care for others in many ways (Reaching Out)

Reaching Up
Sunday service is about worship-reaching up in gratitude and reverence to God, through word, prayer and music. It is a time set aside to praise God for all that God has done, is doing and will do. It is also a time to gather and focus our prayers on this world and that which we cannot manage alone-asking for God’s guidance, intervention, protection and strength as we navigate the many challenges of life. We REACH UP so that God may reach down and touch us, be in us and work through us.
Reaching Out
Mountain View United Methodist Church (MVUMC) reaches out as Jesus did to those who are in need, ill, alone, sad, hurt or left out. Church volunteers help provide for those who are hungry. There are men’s and women’s groups that REACH OUT to each other in friendship, special study sessions and community service
Reaching In
When our hearts are open, the Holy Spirit works within us to help grow and be more like Jesus. At MVUMC we help individuals learn to grow in spirit by studying scripture and learning what’s there for us (Sunday school, children’s church and special Bible classes), spending time together in Christian Fellowship, and working together helping others. REACH IN and see how the Spirit can shine through you.
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you,
for the glory of God.
