Last night, I had the deeply moving experience of joining our Frontera De Cristo travelers—Jeni, Carol, and Nancy—for a heartfelt prayer vigil over ZOOM. This gathering was a poignant tribute to the lives lost during perilous journeys across the Cochise County desert.  Although my high school spanish is very rusty, there are some things that do not need words. As each cross was lifted, “Presente” and the name was read. Some of these persons remain unidentified. Some of them children. Each cross commemorated a life tragically cut short, serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing humanitarian crisis at our borders.

This vigil was not only a time for reflection but also a call to action, urging us to embrace compassion, empathy, and understanding. The stories shared and the prayers offered were powerful, leaving a lasting impact on my heart. It was a moment of unity, as we came together to honor those we’ve lost and commit to supporting those in need.
